At first technology was seen as a way to bridge the gap between individuals. Friends and family from across the country, even across the world could send emails to one another, chat in real time with instant messenger and even experience voice-to-voice communication with internet phone services – we were never closer.
But like every piece of technology and progression crafted with the best intentions, there was a dark side to it all. People started to favor instant messaging, texting and calling as opposed to meeting their own neighbors in person. And while physical contact and face-to-face meetings are far from phased out of human society, one can certainly see the widening gulf between us and it only gets wider with every new advancement.
New improvements in 4G internet technology from service providers like Sprint and Clearwire have now made it so that you don’t even have to be at home to accomplish some of the larger web tasks. Why go to a bookstore and perhaps meet people or talk to a cashier when you can just have a book delivered at the press of a button? Will there be a time where we can no longer communicate with one another in personwhen we are incapable?
Probably not, but one has to wonder.
